Pass the “Travel Promotion Act”
September 25, 2008
Legislation would attract more tourists, and their money, to U.S. “While contemplating how to dump $700 billion on Wall Street, Congress has a chance this week also to do something that will bring money into the country at no cost to taxpayers… “The Travel Promotion Act, intended to re-establish the United States as a premier destination for foreign travelers and to make sure they know the rules for entry into this country, should be the proverbial no-brainer for Congress to pass before its current session ends… “Given that the country is running a trade deficit in excess of $500 billion, doesn't it make sense to encourage, at no cost to taxpayers, foreign visitors to come here and leave us some money? There's no good reason not to pass this bill.” The Travel Promotion Act (S.1661 / H.R. 3232) establishes a public- private campaign – at no cost to U.S. taxpayers – to promote travel to America and communicate U.S. security and entry policies. The legislation has the support of 245 members of the House of Representatives and 51 Senators.
